Not the Evening Mail

Getting to the REAL truth

Parkview Strike 1st June

Parkview Strike 1st June

The Academy strike at Parkview on June 1st at 11am has been reported in the Mail for once, but it is not only pupils that are taking action, parents are encouraged to support the pupils as well. Below are points made by readers.

"If you wish you can use my name for this story. My name is Nichola Armstrong and I am a year 10 student at Parkview school.Today Parkview staff have found out that they are unlikely to get a job. Many teachers were seen crying also teachers who were offered jobs in the academy have refused them and walked out of school. In some lessons today teachers told students there was no point in being school and to go home. Students and teachers are outraged and students have decided to plan a protest on the first Monday back after wit week (June 1st). At 11 am students will walk out of school and sit in the field with posters showing that we believe the academy should not go ahead. Students, parents and teachers have no idea about the plans in the academy, the evening mail knows more infomation  than we do. We are trying to get as much publicity as we can to spread the word of our plans. There a texts, the use of msn and social networking sites that are being used. We are also trying to get the evening mail to come and do a report."

We are looking forward to see if the mail do report and if so if they use the usual trick of just showing quotes from people, or actually do a report on the story.

"
I would like to confirm the pupils from Parkview School will be walking out of school on Monday 1st June at 11am in protest of the new proposed Academy plans.  Today teacher's were told their 'fate' in school whilst still expected to teach a classroom full of students.  Many long serving and very much respected teacher's do not a have a job in September.  Two teachers walked out in protest and one, I believe, turned down the offer of a job because other colleagues weren't offered a job.  Teacher's were crying and pupils are very angry and upset.  A wonderful way start to the Whit Week holidays for them all.  No one wants the Academy, Parkview is not a failing school, but the plans still steam ahead regardless.  Now the pupils are taking matters into their own handswith their parent's full support. They will be walking out of class and protesting in the school grounds on Monday 1st June at 11am.  Hopefully Alfred Barrow and Thorncliffe pupils will do their bit too.  All your support is much needed.  Now is the time to act if you haven't in the past.  Good luck kids!!!"

We do not have full details of teaching staff situations, as far as we were aware all teaching staff are supposedly guaranteed their current conditions for the next three years. There are clearly rumblings that this may not be the case. It would appear, though we have nothing official, that things are not that clear cut. It is a possibility the three year deal only applies to all teaching staff given a post in the Academy. As their current School will no longer exist it appears that some teachers could be left out of the Academy structure.

If anybody can clear this point up, we will pass it on.
